Watching live coverage of the destruction in Afghanistan in 2021, Amy wrote "So We Wait" feeling helpless as she watched the suffering unfold. The senselessness of it all stirred up a yearning for heaven and soon words and notes tumbled out with a flood of tears.

A lot of times we as Christians hesitate to question hard realities out loud, however Psalms reminds us that it is ok. It is human. "So We Wait" provides space for those questions while at the same time reminding us we can hold grief in one hand and joy in the other.

So We Wait

Why are we surprised
When the light grows dim
This broken world needs Jesus
Our broken hearts need Him

So why are we in shock
When the enemy gets loud
He has been defeated
One day He will bow

Help us to remember
You have overcome
As children of the promise
We have power
We have power through your Son

And so we wait
And we hope
We are filled with longing
We ache for home

And here we lift
Our voice as one
Even so Lord Jesus
Lord quickly come

Why don’t we expect
To struggle in this place
You only promised peace
When we rest in your embrace

You said that we would hurt
You said we’d suffer loss
Yet nothing could remove us
From the Father's arms

Help us to remember
You have overcome
As children of the promise
We have power through your Son

And so we wait
And we hope
We are filled with longing
We ache for home

And here we lift
Our voice as one
Even so Lord Jesus
Lord quickly come

In the name of Jesus we sing
In the name of Jesus we speak
In Jesus’ name rejoicing
The captives have been freed

Oh in Jesus’ name there’s victory
Yes in Jesus’ name there’s life
Once dead in sin and hopeless now
In Jesus name
In Jesus name
In Jesus name we rise

And so we wait
And we hope
We are filled with longing
We ache for home

And here we lift
Our voice as one
Even so Lord Jesus
Lord quickly come
