about Amy Hillis
Amy’s journey in ministry has been unconventional in every way. Her 20’s were spent running from God. Her 30’s were spent trying to make it up to God. But grace interrupted all that running and working, transforming Amy’s 40’s into a season of redemption in every way possible. After many surprising twists and turns, this one-time professional church volunteer, jack-of-all-trades found her life turned upside down and inside out in the spring of 2021. A divine appointment, in an unlikely place, led to connections that awakened Amy’s love of songwriting and from this her first album, Let the Holy Roar, was born. Since 2021, Amy has formed meaningful friendships with other songwriters in Nashville and together they continue to release new music. In addition to her love for music and leading worship, Amy also finds great joy in teaching God’s Word and is passionate about helping others discover its riches. Whether at women’s conferences or her local church, Amy’s transparency and sense of humor have become hallmarks of her communication style. As Amy completes her BA in Christian Ministry while also earning credit toward a Master of Divinity, she looks forward to incorporating what she is learning into her teaching sessions.

Life is hard. Sometimes it is easy to get overwhelmed with the weight of our circumstances. In my own life, I sometimes struggle to make sense of the suffering my family has endured. I’m so thankful for the reminders of God’s faithfulness and sovereignty woven throughout Amy Hillis’ music. I often find myself repeating the truths I’ve heard in her songs over and over in my head throughout the day. The words bring great comfort and hope and they always point me straight to my gracious and merciful Savior.

It is no small feat to make sense of a beautiful Gospel when our only lens is one of brokenness and shame. Amy Hillis interprets this strange juxtaposition with ease. She expertly weaves together both the rawness and redemption, both the purpose and pain inherent in each of our unique journeys. As both a friend and a fellow pilgrim, I thought I knew well the contours of her heart; but my goodness, Amy is among that rare breed of performers that courageously plumbs the depths of their own experience for the sake of their audience. Amy’s words water parched areas of my soul I had honestly given up on. Her music and stories leave me with the sense of being truly seen, and with the renewed hope that I will see God’s goodness in the land of the living.

Stories. I love them. We all have them. One of the gifts we give is sharing them with one another. Some are better at telling them than others. Stories have always impacted. Hearts. Individuals. Communities. Cultures. Stories start movements. Movements create change. Amy has the gift of sharing through song. But what is powerful is not just her talent, her ability, how the words she has written tell her story, but how they resonate with our own. It leaves us reflecting on how the Lord has met us along our own journey. It creates a desire within us to turn our own pain into praise. It reiterates the faithfulness of our God. It leads us to meet him in Amy’s hallelujahs and in our own.
