The first four lines of this song are the first four lines Amy’s wrote after giving God a fear-laced “Yes” to this songwriting journey.

You meet me in the waiting and
You meet me in the hard
Even when I’m wounded, Lord
You redeem every scar

We are reminded in the verses that nothing is wasted, not our tears, not our grief, not our wounds, not seasons of sickness and death. God not only redeems those seasons, He also walks every step of them with us.

In the chorus, “Hallelujah” becomes the point of remembrance. It is from this posture we learn that worship is both offering and weapon. We must offer it, no matter how broken, in every circumstance not only to praise the One True God, but to also push back against the darkness that seeks to destroy us. With hands and hearts raised, we can wait with confidence and peace.

In the Waiting

You meet me in the waiting
And you meet me in the hard
And even when I’m wounded Lord
You redeem every scar

You meet me in the silence
And you meet me in the song
And even when I run away
You’re there with open arms

I don’t know how you do  it
Lord I don’t know how you stay
But I’m clinging to your promises and this broken world won’t stop my praise

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelujah
Hallelujah to your name

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelu
I’ll sing Hallelujah
With my hands and my heart raised

You meet me in the fire
And you meet me in the storm
And even when the waters rise
I am not consumed

You meet me in the dying Lord
With resurrection power
You won’t leave me without hope
Even in the darkest hour

I don’t know how you do it
Lord I don’t know how you stay
But I’m clinging to your promises and this broken world won’t stop my praise

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelujah
Hallelujah to your name

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelu
I’ll sing Hallelujah
With my hands and my heart raised

Praise God who suffered in my place
Praise him who gives with lavish grace
Praise him when trials strip away
Sing praises to him come what may

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelujah
Hallelujah to your name

I will meet you
In the Hallelujahs
Hallelu
I’ll sing Hallelujah
With my hands and my heart raised
